|BIG TROUBLE: The Common Errors in Neuro-Ophthalmic Cases|
Vorsitzende/r: Jonathan Trobe (Ann Arbor)
Based on a career-long review of medical cases that led to malpractice litigation, Jonathan Trobe will present the most common and dreadful errors made by ophthalmologists involving neuro-ophthalmic issues, such as lack of familiarity with certain conditions, misinterpretation of visual fields, and incorrectly attributing visual loss to maculopathy, glaucoma, or psychogenic causes. The lecturer will suggest ways to avoid these mistakes. Dr. Jonathan Trobe, M.D. received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his residency at Wills Eye Hospital (ophthalmology) as well as the University of Miami (neurology). Since 1986, he is a professor for ophthalmology at University of Michigan Medical School, were he also holds a professorship in neurology since 1996. Dr. Trobe specializes in neuro-ophthalmology and is one of the leading experts in cerebral, neurogenic, and psychogenic visual impairments. His research focus is on optic nerve diseases as well as visuospatial manifestations of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Jonathan Trobe has published 178 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He decided to focus on ophthalmology after receiving a corneal transplantation for keratitis.
